Adnexal Mass (Tumors)–Diagnosis & Treatment

    Overview

Adnexal tumors are a group of benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) tumors that develop in the structures that are adjacent to the uterus, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the tissue that lines the pelvis. These tumors can be classified into several types based on their origin and cell type.

Some of the most common types of benign adnexal tumors include: Ovarian cysts, Fibroids, Endometriomas, Dermoid cysts.

Malignant adnexal tumors are less common, but they are more serious. The most common malignant adnexal tumor is ovarian cancer, which develops in the cells of the ovary.

Symptoms of adnexal tumors can include pelvic pain, abdominal swelling, and changes in bowel or bladder function. However, many adnexal tumors do not cause any symptoms and are discovered incidentally during a routine pelvic examination or imaging study.
