Overview
The kidneys serve an important function in the body because they act as the body's filtration mechanism, helping to manage water levels and remove wastes through urine (pee). They also aid in the regulation of blood pressure, red blood cell formation, and calcium and mineral levels.
Pediatric Nephrology treats newborns, children, and adolescents with acute and chronic kidney and urinary system problems. Pediatric nephrologists diagnose and treat kidney anomalies, nephritis, chronic renal insufficiency, acute renal failure, hypertension, electrolyte abnormalities, and kidney transplantation.
