Dr. Da Young Ha is a podiatrist who treats issues related to the gums and bones in the mouth. She completed her bachelor's degree from the Seoul National University, School of Dentistry, and master's from the Seoul National University, Graduate School of Dentistry. She specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating periodontal disease (commonly known as gum disease), as well as the placement of dental implants. She has considerable training in both of these fields, as well as three years of extra education after dental school. During the first visit, Dr. Da Young Ha normally goes over the patient's comprehensive medical and dental history. She then examines the patient's gums for any signs of recession, evaluates how his teeth come into contact with one another when biting, and checks for any loose teeth. She then uses small measuring equipment (called a probe) to assess the condition of the patient's gums by measuring the depth of the spaces between his teeth and gums (called periodontal pockets). X-rays may be used to examine the health of the bone beneath the gum line.
