The Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) is the largest clinical and scientific research institute in the Czech Republic, focusing on cardiovascular diseases, organ transplants, diabetology, and metabolism disorders. It operates as a contributory organization under the Ministry of Health and primarily relies on payments from health insurance companies for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Research activities are funded through grants from domestic and foreign agencies, as well as collaborations with pharmaceutical companies. Established in 1971 by integrating six independent research institutes, IKEM comprises three specialized centers: the Cardiology Center, the Transplantation Center, and the Diabetology Center. 

The Cardiac Center provides comprehensive care for cardiac and vascular diseases, emphasizing prevention. The Diabetes Center focuses on patients with complications and is the largest diabetology center in the country. The Transplantation Center coordinates kidney, kidney-pancreas, and liver transplant programs. The institute also includes the Experimental Medicine Center for molecular biology and genetics research, as well as the Nursing Care and Quality Department for managing healthcare personnel and ensuring nursing care standards. IKEM aims to uphold high-quality standards, serve citizens' health needs, and be a socially responsible organization that prioritizes environmental protection and employee well-being.
