About

The Sana Clinic Pegnitz is a house of basic and standard care in the southern part of the district of Bayreuth. Around 6,000 inpatients are treated at the site every year. The medical focus of the clinic is general and visceral surgery, accident surgery and orthopaedics, neurosurgery, internal medicine, anesthesia and intensive care medicine, multimodal pain therapy and urology with consultation. The Sana Clinic Pegnitz is a modern, newly renovated facility with 110 beds and the main departments of internal medicine, accident surgery and general surgery and the departments for gynecology and obstetrics, surgery and ear, nose and throat medicine. For the population in the district, the Sana Klinik Pegnitz ensures basic medical care with a high medical standard. In addition, there is a focus on diseases and tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and the breast, heart diseases and endoprosthetics. Births and emergencies are attended to around the clock. MEDICINE AND CARE GENERAL, VISCERAL AND MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY The specialist department for general and visceral surgery offers comprehensive treatment of the acute and chronic, benign and malignant diseases of the department. The focus is on personal, individual patient care. This includes prompt, comprehensive information for patients about the treatment stages that have been initiated and the resulting further consequences. Interventions in the abdominal cavity (gallbladder, hernias, intestinal diseases) are planned and carried out using gentle, minimally invasive approaches. State-of-the-art techniques and working methods are always used. As a result, interventions can increasingly be carried out on an outpatient or short-stay basis. The complex forms of therapy for tumor diseases or chronic inflammatory changes in the abdominal cavity are planned as part of a joint interdisciplinary consultation with their gastroenterological/oncological colleagues. The course of the pre- and post-hospital treatment phase is always coordinated with the involvement of their resident colleagues. ANESTHESIOLOGY The safety and well-being of their patients is their top priority. With modern, gentle methods, they give priority to anesthesiological care of patients during an operation and monitor them in the recovery room after the operation. This allows them to achieve speedy recovery after the operation. Controlling pain after surgery or during treatment plays a crucial role in recovery. All methods of general and regional anesthesia are applied using the latest knowledge. More than 3,000 anesthetics are performed at the Sana Klinik Pegnitz every year. For the necessary care after an operation or seriously ill patients, the clinic has a modern equipped intensive care unit. Here, patients with diseases from different specialist areas are treated together with the relevant specialist colleagues. INTERNAL MEDICINE In the internal department, diseases from the entire field of internal medicine are treated according to current guidelines. The specialists specialize in diseases of the cardiovascular system, blood vessels, the gastrointestinal tract including liver diseases and metabolic diseases such as diabetes. They are members of the national scientific professional societies and undergo continuous further training. Constant investments in the most modern ultrasound diagnostics, radiological and endoscopic techniques ensure a high standard in the regional basic and standard care. TRAUMA SURGERY, D-DOCTOR, ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY Accident surgery includes surgical procedures to restore and maintain structures injured by accidents, especially bones, joints and soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system. State-of-the-art technologies are used to ensure the best possible care. The focal points in the field of orthopedics are hip endoprosthetics, arthroscopic knee surgery and foot surgery. The clinic and their doctors are approved for the accident insurance procedure of the professional associations. EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT The emergency room is the first point of contact for all patients who are referred to by resident doctors, the rescue service or the emergency doctor. In the emergency room of the Sana Klinik Pegnitz, acute illnesses and accidental injuries of around 2,500 patients per year are treated around the clock. Doctors from the following disciplines work together on an interdisciplinary basis: • Internal medicine (with a focus on cardiology and gastroenterology) • General and Visceral Surgery • trauma surgery and orthopaedics QUALITY AT THE SANA KLINIK PEGNITZ Overall, healthcare in Germany is of a very high quality. Nevertheless, it is worth asking the question of quality again and again. Because they can only maintain this status through a consistent quality policy that strives for continuous improvement. In 2008, the Sana Klinik Pegnitz successfully underwent KTQ certification and in 2011 our clinic was re-certified by KTQ. The first certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 took place in 2014 and the re-certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 took place in 2017. The quality of their services has thus been scrutinized and confirmed by neutral external auditors. They also regularly conduct written surveys to determine how satisfied their main contacts, i.e. patients and referring doctors, are with their work.
