About
The Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld are a competence center for orthopedics with specialist clinics for operative orthopedics and non-operative orthopedics, manual medicine, spinal surgery and a directly connected rehabilitation clinic. HISTORY OF THE SANA KLINIKEN SOMMERFELD In the middle of the Markisches Sand, on the shore of Lake Beetzer, the Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld stretches over 120 hectares. Every visitor is amazed at the sight of the alpine country houses, the large and small details that have now been almost completely lovingly restored. Here you will find an ensemble whose conception as a hospital and home for the seriously ill, often terminally ill, has been implemented in a masterly manner by the builders. The hospital complex, which was built between 1912 and 1914 and has been a listed building since 1995, still bears witness to the Wilhelmine era. The "Waldhaus Charlottenburg", as it was originally called, was built, as was customary at the time, outside the city, in the smoke and dust-free air of an extensive forest area. The architect Heinrich Seeling chose the form of a rural Alpine idyll as the architectural form for the extensive lung sanatorium, probably also because the "Waldhaus" near Berlin was intended to replace the expensive special clinics at higher altitudes for the often socially disadvantaged tuberculosis patients. For many years, the former "Waldhaus Charlottenburg" bore his name in recognition of the services of the long-time director - Hellmuth Ulrici. The specialist hospital has been known under the name "Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld" for some time. With the general decline in tuberculosis, the house increasingly fulfilled non-pulmonary care tasks. The clinic for operative orthopedics was founded in 1987, expanding the profile of the traditional lung clinic into a specialist clinic for diseases of the musculoskeletal system. In the field of joint implantations, the clinic is one of the leading in Germany. With the clinic for manual medicine, also founded in 1987, the third mainstay of the house was established in addition to pneumology and surgical orthopedics. After the reunification of Germany, the Berlin Senate took over responsibility for the facility for a short time. This was followed by the takeover by the German Parity Welfare Association, which set the first impulses for complete patient care in the combination of hospital treatment and medical rehabilitation. With the commissioning of the rehabilitation clinic in 1997, the concept of spatially close connection of acute medicine and rehabilitation was realized. Due to hospital planning, the pneumology clinic was closed in 2004. The clinics thus developed into a highly specialized center for diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The existing offer for pneumological rehabilitation is the only one in the state of Brandenburg. The Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld are part of the Sana Kliniken Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH (formerly PAREITISCHER Unternehmensverbund), which has been managed by Sana Kliniken AG and the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband – Landesverband Berlin are worn. ANESTHESIOLOGY AND INTENSIVE CARE The focus of their department is to ensure the greatest possible safety during the operation and the rapid recovery of the patient afterwards through careful preparation and qualified implementation of the anesthetic procedures required for the operation. A team of specialists and specially trained nurses will look after you in the anesthetic outpatient clinic, during your operation and as part of the intensive monitoring afterwards, using gentle, state-of-the-art methods of general and regional anesthesia. CLINIC FOR MANUAL MEDICINE The clinic for manual medicine is one of Germany's largest national specialist hospitals for non-surgical orthopedics and pain medicine. They have specialized in the complex diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, especially back and joint pain. Detailed diagnostics and a wide range of scientifically based treatment methods enable individual and complex treatment in accordance with the findings in a team of doctors, psychologists, nursing staff and therapists from different professional groups. They look after more than 3,400 patients every year. The clinic for manual medicine is a member of the ANOA (working group of non-surgical orthopedic manual medicine acute clinics) and works according to the ANOA concept. The focus of the concept is individualized, finding-oriented treatments on a neuro-orthopaedic basis, including manual medical-functional, pain medicine and psychotherapeutic methods. They also treat patients with pain in the musculoskeletal system due to long-COVID syndrome. Their clinic meets the highest quality standards and has multiple certifications. CLINIC FOR OPERATIVE ORTHOPEDICS When the occasional pull in the hip or knee has turned into increasing pain, mobility is significantly restricted and painkillers are of little help, the time has often come for a joint replacement. One of the great successes of orthopedic surgery is the replacement of worn joints. The Clinic for Operative Orthopedics has specialized in artificial joint replacement for 30 years. With more than 2500 implantations per year, they are now the center for joint replacement in Berlin and Brandenburg and are one of the leading clinics in Germany. The high treatment quality of the largest endoprosthetics center in Berlin/Brandenburg has been confirmed with an EndoCert certificate from the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery (DGOOC) as an endoprosthetics center for maximum care. They mainly carry out hip and knee joint replacements, but also shoulder, elbow and ankle joints. In the event of loosening or wear and tear of a joint prosthesis, they carry out replacement surgery even in the most difficult cases. Their joint prostheses are made of high-strength and low-wear materials such as titanium and ceramics and ensure permanent, flawless function. The comprehensive care of worn and injured joints includes the entire spectrum of operations by way of joint reflection (arthroscopy). This minimally invasive surgical technique is ideal for treating sports injuries to the hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle. Another focus of their clinical work is foot surgery. After the operation has been completed, further treatment can then take place directly on site in the rehabilitation clinic. Uniform, finely tuned treatment concepts enable holistic care and continuous medical treatment of their patients. Highly qualified doctors, nursing staff and therapists are available to their patients for treatment procedures using the latest methods and state-of-the-art technology. SPINE SURGERY CLINIC A diseased spine can cause severe pain and limit mobility. Their goal is to alleviate your symptoms and give you more freedom of movement again. The Clinic for Spine Surgery specializes in the surgical treatment of back pain and diseases of the spine. Established, minimally invasive techniques are used to treat herniated discs, narrowing of the spinal canal and vertebral body fractures. They offer the entire spectrum of reconstructive spinal surgery, including complex care for spinal deformities. During your inpatient stay, an experienced team of doctors will take care of your recovery. Together with their nursing staff and physiotherapists, they design an individual treatment concept. After the acute care, they will be happy to treat you further on site in the modern rehabilitation clinic. Outpatient aftercare is also possible in their health centers in Neuruppin, Oranienburg or Prenzlauer Berg. ORTHOPEDIC REHABILITATION The rehabilitation clinic specializes in the follow-up treatment of operations on the spine and large joints as well as accident injuries. Together with the clinic for operative orthopedics and the clinic for manual medicine, it forms the focus of orthopedics at the Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld and thus combines acute medical treatment and rehabilitative medicine under one roof. PNEUMOLOGY REHABILITATION The Department of Pneumology offers inpatient treatment for patients with respiratory diseases. Patients with chronic diseases of the lungs and bronchi as well as patients who have to recover from pneumonia, pulmonary embolism or after operations on the lungs and chest are treated. Patients who are listed for a lung transplant are also prepared for this in their clinic. A total of 41 beds are available on Ward A. The accredited sleep laboratory is part of the department's range of services. The Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld are among the most renowned orthopedic specialist clinics in Germany. The Clinic for Operative Orthopedics, the Clinic for Spinal Surgery and the Clinic for Manual Medicine and Pain Medicine offer you acute medical care at the highest level. Orthopedic indications treatment includes hip, knee and shoulder endoprostheses, foot diseases, back pain and spinal diseases. Their goal is to achieve pain relief and rapid functional improvement in their patients through the use of the most modern and individual treatment methods. The historic buildings in the Upper Bavarian country house style and the well-kept park convey a sense of security and relaxation.
