About

Our health care industry story began in 2001 when we opened "Mala Bogorodica-Sistina," a specialized hospital for obstetrics and gynecology—a place where care for the reproductive health of women acquired a completely new dimension. The positive results we achieved in a completely new business segment prove that regardless of which area you invest in, it is the amount of love and dedication you put into a new project that determines its level of success. The moments of success, the days when the brand "Sistina" gained broader recognition, led to its capacity extension. Following a serious investment in the health care business, it became a clinical hospital, opening its doors to patients on April 7, 2010. On November 10, 2010, Sistina Hospital achieved another great success. The signing of the affiliation contract with Acibadem, the largest network of hospitals in South East Europe, created an opportunity for knowledge and experience exchange with the medical team of the Turkish health care giant. Within a year, this successful cooperation grew to become a joint partnership. Sistina Hospital became a part of the Acibadem health care network and the first hospital to become a part of the Turkish healthcare industry leader outside Turkey. "Acibadem Sistina" thereby became a part of the second-largest chain of hospitals in the world, Malaysia IHH. Being a member of this network meant raising standards in patients’ treatment, implementing the latest technologies and treatment protocols, and positioning Macedonia on the health care world map. "Acibadem Sistina" is, at present, the largest and most modern private hospital in the region, exemplifying success in the health care industry. This was all accomplished through the offer of medical services that follow the latest protocols in treating patients. The top medical team, utilizing the most contemporary methods and techniques, is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Acibadem Sistina Hospital occupies 25.017 square meters of indoor space in a 7-floor layout. It is equipped with 11 operating rooms (theatres) and has a capacity of 211 nursing beds and 53 intensive care units (general surgery, cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, and neonatology). "Acibadem Sistina" Hospital received the golden seal of quality and safety from JCI, the most prestigious organization for hospital accreditation in the world. This seal represents evidence of quality, which is the result of Acibadem Sistina Hospital’s commitment to providing safe and efficient service for its patients. Top medical specialties offered by Acibadem Sistina Hospital • Crohn's Disease Crohn's disease is a condition in which chronic inflammation occurs in the digestive tract, which results in severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. The actual cause of Crohn's disease remains unknown, but scientists have theories that it may occur due to a weakened immune system, different environmental factors, and, of course, genetics. The treatment of Crohn's disease involves many lifestyle changes along with proper medications, exercises, and sometimes surgeries. The treatment doesn't stop or eliminate the disease, but it treats the symptoms caused by Crohn's disease. The medications given to the patients mainly include anti-inflammatory agents. The common medicines for Crohn’s diseases may include corticosteroids (steroids), immunomodulators, biologic therapeutic drugs, aminosalicylates, and some other medicines such as acetaminophen that help to control the pain. For diarrhea treatment, loperamide may also be given in some severe cases. When medications don't seem to show any improvements, surgery may stop the condition from getting more severe and problematic. The common surgeries used in Crohn's disease include Strictureplasty, Bowel resection, Proctocolectomy or Colectomy, and removal of fistulas. • Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injections (ICSI) Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injections (ICSI) provide a way to fertilize the egg cell with sperm in in vitro conditions. ICSI is a fairly sensitive procedure that is done in case the sperm fails to penetrate the wall of the egg cell due to various reasons, such as the thickness of the wall or swimming incapability. In-vitro ICSI has 50 to 80% chances of succession. In this process, the mother's egg cell is in-vitro fertilized with the father's sperm to ensure that the sperm penetrates the cell wall of the egg cell. With the help of a micropipette, sperm is directly injected into the cytoplasm of the egg cell. It is observed in the lab for 4-5 days until it completes its fertilization and becomes an embryo, which is inserted back into the mother for natural in vivo growth. • Minimally Invasive Aortic Valve Surgery of the Heart Minimally invasive aortic valve surgery is one way of treating the defective heart. As the name suggests, this surgery is less painful as it requires only a small incision. The cut is made between the ribs, which are present on the right side of your chest just above the heart. Unlike open-heart surgery, minimally invasive heart surgery provides easy access to the heart without having to cut through the patient's central breastbone. With the help of minimally invasive heart surgery, several heart diseases are treated at Acibadem Sistina Hospital. The surgery may include thoracoscopic surgery, robotic-assisted heart surgery, or open pop-up box surgery, in which a small incision is made in the patient's chest and that heals quicker than open-heart surgery. • Ventricular systolic dysfunction Ventricular systolic dysfunction is the critical condition of impairment in the left ventricle of the heart. The heart's left ventricular chamber is primarily responsible for distributing oxygenated blood to all the vital organs of our body. Ventricular systolic dysfunction occurs when the ventricles fail to perform their job due to any damage or defect in the cardiac system. Time and age may also be a cause of disturbed ventricular functions. Ventricular systolic dysfunction involves a disruptive relaxation rhythm of cardiac muscles that causes shortness of breath in the patient along with the weakening of the heart. Certain medications have shown effective results by keeping the heart rate under control. These may include taking different diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, ARNIs, beta-blockers, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, nitrates, and hydralazine. Some lifestyle changes also help improve the symptomatic condition. Acibadem Sistina Hospital has a proper diet plan for patients, along with a few preventative measures. In the case of extremely severe conditions, surgery may be done to treat the condition. STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGIES Acibadem Sistina Hospital continuously invests in providing new and modern medical technologies. All hospital departments are equipped with highly sophisticated medical equipment. ANGIOGRAPHS The cardiovascular center is equipped with two digital angiographs and a section for anesthesiologic support. The angiographs have the opportunity for increased image quality, a powerful tube and generator, and an improved range of filtering. The clear image enables precise imaging of even the smallest blood vessels. Invasive gastroenterologic, hepatologic, pulmonologic, and neurologic interventions are performed with their help, despite all kinds of diagnostic and interventional vascular procedures. PET/CT PET/CCT is one of the most effective diagnostic methods. It is used for the diagnosis of various cancer types, determining the stage of the disease, treatment planning, and monitoring the treatment effect. By using PET/CT, tumors can be identified in their early stages, and the exact location of tumors can be detected, even the ones that are 5 mm. PET/CT plays an important role in cardiology for the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease, in neurology for epilepsies and dementia, as well as in other inflammatory diseases. CT 128 SLICE Computer tomography in all organs and systems provides virtual bronchoscopy and colonoscopy, imaging of peripheral, neck, and heart arteries, perfusion examinations, and interventional procedures (biopsies, drainages). By installing the sophisticated equipment, a lower dose of radiation—up to 40%—is enabled. The software solutions of the device enable the treatment of many diagnostic procedures for a short period of time. DEXA SCAN DUAL ENERGY X-RAY ABSORPTIOMETRY This sophisticated device enables accurate and precise measurements of bone density in patients with osteoporosis. Despite the possibility of setting an early and accurate diagnosis of osteoporosis, this device also monitors the effect of treatment. The imaging is painless, and for a period of 10–20 minutes, a complete image of the bone density can be obtained.
